Answers To Some Questions

Email me. Every project is different. We’ll get it figured out when I have a few details about your record.

File Delivery

The best delivery for your mixes for mastering is the 24 bit interleaved .wav file format. Also fine is the .aif (or .aiff) format. I can also handle Left/Right mono mixes, but since you asked, I like the interleaved files better. Avoid .sd2 format, because it requires me to jump through a bunch of hoops to get my mastering system to read them, which will cost you money for me to sit around and watch a progress bar. Not fun for anybody. If you’re using any other file format, stop it. It’s not standard.

Feel free to send files on CD, DVD (make sure the discs you burn are Mac AND PC compatible) or contact me for information on FTP transfer. Please let me know if you want your discs back. It seems that many people don’t care to get their media returned to them, and the stacks of orphaned CDs and DVDs are getting out of hand. They don’t have to go home, but they can’t stay here. I’ll try to ask, but there are a lot of discs about, and I can’t guarantee that I will.

Talk To Me

Hit me up. Ask me about anything and everything you can think of. I’m in a room by myself all day long, so I welcome some conversation. If you have any concerns about what you should or shouldn’t do to make my life easier and get you a better sounding record, let me know. Send me a couple songs if you want me to check for anything you may be missing. Buy me a beer. Ask me to buy you a beer. Whatever. I’m doing this for fun and profit, so let’s have some fun too.

Tape

I don’t have a half inch machine. I get asked if I have one about once a year. I’ll have one before too long, but for today, if you really need the half inch love, we’re going to have to work something out. I can either rent one and charge that to the project, or you can print to the half inch and drop that back into your DAW and send me those files. If you do that, please send mixes that haven’t been through the half inch too, because it’s nice to choose. Just don’t reuse tape - print through will put kick drums in the middle of your string swell intro, and that’s not....swell.
